Message From Police Chief Dengler – Speeding in School Zones

Posted on December 11, 2025

Dear Residents,

The Rye Brook Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of our children, families, and community members. Recent monitoring in designated school zones has shown a concerning number of vehicles exceeding the posted 15 MPH speed limit during school hours. To address this, increased speed enforcement is now being conducted at all schools within the Village of Rye Brook. Motorists traveling 10 MPH or more over the posted limit can expect to receive a citation if they are pulled over . These citations can add points to your license and affect insurance rates, in addition to carrying a monetary fine. Starting February 2026, points and associated fines for speeding and passing a stopped school bus will be increased by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.

We urge all drivers to:
Reduce speed when approaching school zones.
Remain alert for crossing guards, buses, and children.
Follow posted signs and flashing school zone indicators.
Your cooperation helps protect our most vulnerable road users and keeps our community safe. Thank you for driving responsibly.
Stay safe,

Chief Eric Dengler
Rye Brook Police Department
