Good evening Rye Brook Residents,
The cumulative number of residents who have tested positive for coronavirus in Rye Brook is 171. I appreciate all the efforts most people are making to keep social distancing. But as I have said in prior emails, we must not let our guard down now.
This Friday marks the initial step for the reopening of New York State. Starting Friday, New York State will allow certain activities to re-open statewide as part of the Governor’s NY Forward reopening plan. As a result, we will be re-opening our Village outdoor tennis courts starting this Friday, May 15th with the following state guidelines:
- Play can only occur with scheduled reservations only(no walk-ons are allowed). Our Village tennis reservation system will be available later this week. Please keep checking the Village website at ryebrookny.gov
- All reservations must be made at least 1 day in advance
- The daily schedule will be posted at each of the court locations
- Only singles play allowed (no doubles)
- No congregation of players or those waiting to play
- Bathrooms will be closed
- Benches and picnic tables will be either removed from the parks or taped off
- Visitors to the tennis area must always wear masks when not playing and maintain at least a 6-foot separation
The state has been divided up into 10 regions that must meet certain metrics to be eligible to begin reopening. Once each region meets the metrics, they can begin to reopen in phases. Unfortunately, Westchester County has NOT met all the requirements to move into “Phase One” of the State’s reopening plan. Geographic areas that are able to enter into “Phase One” (which includes three areas in upstate New York — the Finger Lakes, the Southern Tier, and Mohawk Valley) will be allowed as of Friday to resume manufacturing, construction and agricultural operations as well curbside pickup or in-store drop off for non-grocery retail stores in those regions. Again, this does not yet include Westchester County which is in the ‘Mid-Hudson Region’. There is a huge amount of detailed information on the state’s reopening plans. Over the next few days, the Recreation Department will be hosting several live virtual programs for residents of different ages. They are planning activities such as online BINGO, Name that Tune, and other fun programs you can play from home and hosted live by our Recreation staff! Program sizes are limited so please watch your email for information on how to sign up.

While we love seeing the “Birthday Caravans” driving around town, please ensure that your children are not standing out of your vehicle’s sunroof while the vehicle is in motion.
